A moving documentary about women who survived illegal abortion, nurses who picked up the pieces when things went wrong, and campaigning doctors and abortion rights advocates, whose work brought about the ground breaking 1967 Abortion Act, a historic turning point for women’s rights.Ìý

ToÌýcelebrate the Centenary of Women’s Suffrage, ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ has commissioned an exhibition of new art works on the theme ofÌýFemale Firsts,Ìýas part of a wide programme of public events in 2018. ÌýÌý

×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Female Firsts reflects on both the remarkable achievements of women progressing in areas where they were previously absent, and considers more broadly progress and barriers towards equality.

The Deans of ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ invited members of each Faculty to nominate ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ women of exceptional achievement or those who were clearly a catalyst for gender equality.Ìý A panel of ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ staff, students and alumni then selected 12 women from the many nominations, including 3 members of the IfWH.

Artist-in-Residence, Kristina Clackson-Bonnington, has been commissioned to create the new art works,Ìýwhich focus on the spaces that these twelve women established or became part of.Ìý

This exhibition is a development of the House of Doors; a public art project exploring social change since women getting the right to vote -Ìý

Globablly women are delaying the birth of their first child, but fertility declines with age.Ìý Professor Joyce Harper discusses science, social egg freezing and fertility awareness.
