About the Institute

The ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Research Institute for Collections is a virtual centre for scholarship, pedagogy and impact based around ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳’s exceptional range of collections.

The ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Research Institute for Collections (RIC) provides a unified research focus for ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ collection specialists to work in collaboration with academics, building on ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳’s long tradition of ‘disruptive thinking’ to understand the human condition and the natural world. The work of RIC signals the innovative development of ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ as a prominent centre for humanities and science research using collections. It will create sustainable inter-disciplinary and thematic research opportunities and teaching engagement across ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ collections. It aims to build and enhance collaborations with other universities and museums and open new avenues for research funding by responding to funders recognition of the role of libraries and museums as partners in, and leaders of, academic and scholarly research.

Governance

The ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Research Institite for Collections is overseen by the Pro-Vice-Provost (×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Library Services and the ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Office for Open Science & Scholarship), with a Management Committee formed of representatives from ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Library Services, ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Culture, ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳’s academic body and external expert advisors.
