Which organisation do you work for and what is your job title?

I am working as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Centre for Nature Inspired Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳.

What attracted you to ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳?

×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ is one of the prestigious universities in the world, equipped with fantastic facilities and infrastructure. I was fascinated by the excellent teaching and cross-disciplinary research that focuses on creating innovative solutions to solve major grand challenges in medicine, clean water, or climate change.

Who inspired you most at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ and why?

My PhD supervisor Prof Marc-Olivier Coppens inspires me the most at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳. Prof Coppens has a unique vision, and he has inspired me to think beyond boundaries. His exemplary leadership, filled with a positive attitude, is always inspiring. One excellent piece of advice he shares is never to forget the fundamentals, which has helped me succeed in various projects. His constant encouragement and appreciation have made me enjoy the journey of research rather than just focussing on the final results.

What aspects of your research did you enjoy the most?

I really enjoyed the aspect of collaborative research with scientists from industry to solve the significant issue of designing a stable catalyst for an important industrial reaction. Furthermore, I worked on all scales, from macroscale (building reactors) to the nanoscale (designing catalysts), which broadened my horizon and enhanced my creativity across various disciplines.

What were the most interesting things you did, saw or got involved with while at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳?

Along with research, I am very fond of teaching, and ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ gave me an excellent platform to follow my passion. I actively contributed to various outreach activities, including Nuffield research placements, In2science and ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ summer schools to inspire, motivate and promote science in young budding scientists. These activities give me a sense of contentment and accomplishment. I believe that this is my way of giving back to society and profitable investment for a better future.

Which parts of your ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ experience were the best preparation for your job?

×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ helped in the overall growth both at the academic and professional front. The fantastic research facilities at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ enabled me to make significant contributions at the forefront of international research. I was able to participate in various national and international conferences that helped gain exposure and enhance my communications skills. Furthermore, the involvement in teaching and outreach activities helped me improve my teaching and interpersonal skills.

How did being at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ change you and the way you think about yourself?

×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ has boosted my confidence and encouraged me to participate in various activities. Most importantly, I believe in myself and would like to continue to work towards a better future for society.
