Job description

The Department of Targeted Intervention wishes to make up to three appointments with a minimum of 23 hours each for Postgraduate Teaching Assistants for term 1 of the 2024/25 academic year.Ìý

There is a possibility of additional hours if the need arises. Nineteen hours of practical lab support will be required from 14th-22nd October 2024 with the remaining hours to support a practical exam on 22nd November 2024.

The purpose of this job is to support teaching and learning in the practical skills module, in particular tissue culture. The role will involve working with the academic module lead through the delivery of small group teaching for students taking modules in the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science.

Main duty of the post is to support face-to-face practical classes and practical assessment.

The teaching of practical methods and skills and material that students have previously covered in lectures from 14th-22nd October 2024. Examination assessment duties on 22nd November 2024.

14th October 1230-1530
15th October 0930-1230
18th October 0930-1230, 1315-1615
21st October 1030-1330
22nd October 0930-1230
22nd November 0900-1300

Key responsibilities

  • Teaching assistance through the facilitation of seminars and/or workshops;
  • Class preparation and meeting with lecturers/module organisers;
  • Laboratory demonstration;
  • Giving feedback to students;
  • Marking students' work

Requirements for role

Teaching Assistants will be given training in support of their roles. Experience of tissue culture and general molecular biology would be an advantage but is not essential.

PGTAs are expected to be able to commit be present on the Bloomsbury campus during the dates for which teaching is allocated.
