A pair of professors from ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ have become Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).

IEEE Fellowships are given to a small number of engineers who make 'outstanding contributions to the electrical and information technologies and sciences for the benefit of humanity and the profession'.

Professor Polina Bayvel, head of the Optical Networks Group at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Electronic and Electrical Engineering, was recognised for her contributions to the design of optical networks, with emphasis on wavelength-routing architectures and mitigation of optical-fiber impairments.

Professor Arokia Nathan, who is based at the London Centre for Nanotechnology, was recognised for contributions to the advancement of large area electronics and flat panel technology through innovations in thin film transistor integration and pixel architectures, while maintaining industry standard silicon thin film fabrication processes.

The pair join a select group of IEEE Fellows at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ that includes Professor Alwyn Seeds and Professor Hugh Griffiths, both from ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Electronic and Electrical Engineering.
