Welcome Party for ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳'s Chinese Graduate Students 2008

  • More than 160 graduate students newly arrived at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ from China attended a party in the North Cloister, representing 60 Chinese universities and all ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ faculties, on 3 October 2008.

    The event was hosted by Professor Xiao Guo, ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Pro-Provost for China, Hong Kong & Macau, and the special guests on this occasion were: Minister Counsellor Tian Xiaogang, Head of the Education Section at the Chinese Embassy (London); Ms Sarah Wu, the Director General of the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Delegation (London); andÌý Professor Michael Worton, ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Vice-Provost (Academic & International).

    Professor Guo and his guests spent much of the evening talking with individuals and groups of students. In addition, a number of ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ organisations were also on hand to give advice and information about life at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳: ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Chinese Students & Scholars Association, ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Union Chinese Society, ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Careers and ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Alumni Relations.

    There are more than 1,300 Chinese students at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳, most of whom are studying at the postgraduate level, making them the largest cohort of non-UK students at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳.
