World ranking rise for ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳

Shanghai Jiao Tong University's latest annual Academic Rankings of World Universities indicates that ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳'s place among the world's leading universities has risen again.
×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ is now ranked:
- 22nd in the world, up from 25th in 2007
- third in Europe, up from fourth in 2007
- first in London, up from second in 2007.
In the study's 2008 analysis of subject areas, ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳'s global ranking rose from 17th to 13th in 'Clinical Medicine & Pharmacy' and from 3rd to 2nd place in the UK. In 'Life & Agricultural Sciences', ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ rose from 24th to 19th globally, and held 3rd place in the UK.
×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ President and Provost Professor Malcolm Grant said: "These new rankings confirm ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳'s strengths - and steady improvement - on the global stage. We know that the ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ community conducts excellent research and teaching, but it is their commitment to applying that excellence to the world's major problems that make us London's global university."
