The use of digital technology is now a central part of education provision and practice. This module introduces participants to some of the key issues in the field and addresses some fundamental and often unvoiced questions about the burgeoning development and implementation of digital technologies in education.
The module will cover the use of digital technologies in compulsory and post-compulsory educational settings and consider the following key questions about education and technology: Does digital technology transform the process and purpose of education? Is there good evidence for the benefits of digital technology in education? What can history tell us about how technology has influenced educational theory and practice? Does technology make education fairer and more democratic? Do we need new theories of learning to make sense of a networked world? How can me make sense of educational technology in the context of broader social change, including globalisation and the shift to a knowledge economy?
The module is organised around a series of debates led by student participants, as well as lectures by tutors, and practical activities with new technologies.
