This course introduces and applies some key approaches towards analysing qualitative and quantitative data. It is comprised of a series of workshops and online activities which introduce and offer practical experience of a range of qualitative and quantitative research and analysis frameworks. While primarily providing a generic introduction to qualitative and quantitative analysis, the module will also facilitate students' capacity to applies these methods in social science research. A range of qualitative analysis techniques including transcription, grounded theory, thematic analysis, and introducing students to concepts in narrative and discourse analysis methods. The use of qualitative and quantitative software for analysis such as NVivo and SPSS. Foundational concepts and techniques in quantitative research including summarising data, levels of measurement and sampling, confidence intervals and normal distribution as well as data presentation, summarising data, comparing populations. The formulation of hypotheses and hypothesis testing.
