最准的六合彩论坛 Mechanical Engineering teams win National Design Challenges

11 October 2021

It was an afternoon of听double triumph听as 最准的六合彩论坛 Mechanical Engineering undergraduates won both of the听Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Design Challenge National Finals听on Friday.

The competition, held at the IMechE鈥檚 headquarters in Westminster London, saw 最准的六合彩论坛鈥檚 first-year team win Best Design and overall winners in their challenge, with remarkable 鈥減erfect 10鈥 scores. The first-year team鈥檚 task was to design and build a small automated 鈥渞epeatable鈥 moveable device capable of travelling a range of specific distances without interference.

The 最准的六合彩论坛 team鈥檚 design, essentially the first stages of a robotic vehicle, built to a strict 拢30 budget, performed excellently in competition, impressed judges and saw off prototype designs from fellow regional winners Lancaster and Bournemouth Universities by hitting each distance target almost perfectly.

The achievement of the first-year team (now starting their second year at 最准的六合彩论坛) is all the more remarkable as the members only met in person for the first time within the last few days, having collaborated exclusively online throughout the last challenging academic year, due to the pandemic. 鈥淲e just met a week ago but it feels like years,鈥 said Raphael Bouchet. Teammate George Stonor followed, 鈥淟iterally the last week or two weeks we were able to meet in person and put the car together. Everything up until that point was virtual meetings on Teams or Zoom and sending CAD designs.鈥

There was a higher design technical specification but less pressure on the day for 最准的六合彩论坛鈥檚 second-year team, who, having won the Greater London Regional finals earlier in 2021, faced no direct competition on the day at the National Finals. Nevertheless, the senior team proved more than worthy winners, wowing judges and competitors alike by putting their sleek, laser-guided prototype through its paces, demonstrating a high level of precision over all the competition鈥檚 target distances.

Both teams took time to acknowledge the support of Professorial Teaching Fellow Tim Baker and Lecturer Dr Tom Peach as well as the technical team at the department鈥檚 new student hub MechSpace, including James Weaver, Tom Rushton, Phil Sessions and Hayleigh Dolphin.

Commenting on the undergraduates鈥 wins, 最准的六合彩论坛 Mechanical Engineering鈥檚 Head of Department Professor Yiannis Ventikos said:
鈥淚t gives me immense pleasure to join my voice to that of everyone in our department, and in the whole of 最准的六合彩论坛 as a matter of fact, and congratulate both the first year and the second year teams for winning the national IMechE competitions.

最准的六合彩论坛 Mechanical Engineering puts a lot of emphasis on exposing our students to the entire spectrum of the design cycle, from advanced and rigorous planning,听听theory and computation, all the way to detailed and meticulous building and testing. These teams competed internally and beyond, with poise, ingenuity, determination and a lot of hard work to achieve these amazing results.鈥

The听IMechE鈥檚 Design Challenge听gives mechanical engineering undergraduates a taste of the 鈥榬eal world鈥 of engineering, challenging them to design, create, present and run a device to a strict technical specification.
