The awards, which have been running since 1976, recognise books, journals, reference works, and digital products of extraordinary merit that make a significant contribution to a field of study each year.

Professor Bourn鈥檚 book The Bloomsbury Handbook of Global Education and Learning was chosen in the 鈥楽ingle and Multivolume Reference, & Textbooks in the Social Sciences鈥� category.

The book examines global issues and themes in education, offering different areas of debate, analysis of policies and exploring new directions for research. It includes chapters from internationally renowned academics across the world, including members of staff at the IOE鈥檚 Development Education Research Centre (DERC).

The Development Education Research Centre (DERC) acts as the hub for knowledge generation, new thinking and quality output on development education, global learning and global citizenship.

Professor Douglas Bourn, Editor of the book and Director of the Development Education Research Centre, said:

But up until now there had been few publications that had showed the breadth of this field around the world. This Handbook is the first to cover ideas and practices from all regions of the world. The Bloomsbury Handbook of Global Education and Learning was published in February 2020. At a launch event聽Douglas Bourn and selected chapter authors presented聽overviews of the publication.
