On July 25th, 2024, the Institute for Materials Discovery successfully hosted the "Empowering Innovation and Enterprise" workshop at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ BaseKX. The event brought together industry and academic leaders to share their insights and experiences, fostering an environment of learning and collaboration.

Keynote Speakers:

• Prof. Jong Min Kim, University of Cambridge and Former Vice President of Samsung Electronics, shared his extensive experience in innovation and leadership within the tech industry.
• Prof. Chris Howard, ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ and Founder of venture builder Prosemino, provided valuable insights into building successful ventures from innovative ideas.

Industrial Insights:

• Dr. Will Mortimore, Senior Business Manager at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Business (×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳B), along with successful co-founders Dr. Shakiba Kaveh (Mitra Bio) and Dr. Cyan Williams (Radiant Matter), shared their success stories, challenges, and advice. 

Student pitch competition:

Six teams presented their ideas to a panel of judges, comprising industry experts (Dr Robert Quarshie, Innovate UK) and ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ academics.

The event was not just a learning experience but a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurship. Attendees left inspired and better equipped to drive their projects and ideas forward.
