Dr Michalis Vitos

Michalis started his studies with a BSc in Information Technology Engineering, followed by an MSc in Applied Informatics and a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. After working for more than two years as an independent Web Developer and SEO consultant, he joined ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ and the ExCiteS research group to pursue his PhD.

As a PhD student, his overall objective was to develop innovative ICT and GIS tools that can be used by semi-nomadic and non-literate indigenous communities to monitor environmental changes and resource extraction in scientifically validated ways. Enabling communities to better understand these changes can lead to more informed decision-making. He finished his PhD in 2017 and is now a Post Doctoral Research Assistant, still working with ExCiteS.

His research interests include the areas of Human-Computer Interaction and Software Engineering in combination with the emerging area of Participatory GIS and Citizen Science.
