Abazz following ambitions to sporting success
Final year ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Geographer, Abazz Shayaam-Smith, has been placed at No. 7 in a national list of Future Leaders, the top 150 black students in the country.
Abazz’s sporting achievements have been particularly impressive even though she began formally competing only at the age of 16. Her performances as a triple jumper and sprinter in 2019 led to a prestigious Team England award to support her to compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, her home city. Her focus now is on the 200m, 400m and heptathlon and her ambition is to win Olympic medals.
At ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳, as ACL Sports Officer she has been active in supporting the launching and rebranding of various student sports teams, especially for women.
In her studies, Abazz has developed special interests in the built environment and architecture, and she aims to build on sporting success by developing an international career.
