Reshaping capitalism at Davos 2020

IIPP Director Mariana Mazzucato presented her thinking around rediscovering purpose at Davos 2020.

Climate change was at the top of the agenda this year atÌý, the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Switzerland, which boughtÌýtogether 3,000 participants from around the world.Ìý

IIPP Director Mariana Mazzucato played a key role in the four-day event where the top global business giants from Fortune 500 companies and key thought-leaders of our time, including Greta Thunberg, met to discuss the most pressing issues of the 21²õ³ÙÌý³¦±ð²Ô³Ù³Ü°ù²â.Ìý

This year’s theme was: Forging a Sustainable Path towards a Common Future, proving that climate change was at the forefront of everyone’s mind and that finding economic ways to tackle it,Ìýis key to the future of the planet.

Mazzucato engaged in various thought-leadership sessions during the annual meeting. These discussions focused on:Ìý,Ìýand a key panel discussion with outgoingÌýÌýon green growth.

Putting ‘purpose’ at the heart of the economic conversations wereÌýcentral to IIPP’s contribution to the Davos talks this year, highlighting the need forÌýinnovative thinking and patient finance so that a green transition benefits everyone, including both the business communityÌýand the generalÌýpublic.

“Purpose is not just aboutÌýcorporate responsibilityÌýand short-term goal setting. Instead purpose needs to have a more long-termi²õ³ÙÌýconcrete wayÌýin which the public, private and third sectors tackle the biggest challenges of our time, including the immediate challenge ofÌýclimate change," said Mazzucato.
