PhD Scholarships Available for BSEER Students Studying in 2024

Applications are open and ready to support PhD students at The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources starting in September 2024.

At The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources, we are training future sustainability leaders and heritage professionals through our four PhD courses across our four institutes; the ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Institute for Sustainable Heritage, the ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Institute for Sustainable Resources, the ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Energy Institute, and the ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering.Ìý

We understand that students wishing to study with us may need some financial assistance with their studies, and with PhD scholarship season upon us, weÌýshare here aÌýrange of financial awards aimed at assisting PhD students with their studies. With deadlines approaching in January 2024, we urge prospective applicants to visit the respective scholarships webpages for full information on eligibility, application requirements and deadlines, and to submit their applications imminently.Ìý


×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Research Excellence ScholarshipÌý

×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Research Excellence Scholarships (×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳-RES) offer three years of support with full fees, a stipend of around £21,000 per year and research support funds.ÌýThese are available to all students irrespective of their background, including existing students.ÌýStudents need to apply in conjunction with a supervisory team and they will also need to submit a full PhD application by the deadline.ÌýThe 40 studentships are awarded purely on academic merit (students with strong distinctions and prizes tend to be successful – BSEER has been awarded one scholarship in each of the last two years).ÌýAll projects are eligible.ÌýThe deadline for applications is 12 January 2024.

China Scholarship Council-×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Joint Research ScholarshipÌý

The China Scholarship Council-×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Joint Research ScholarshipÌý(CSC) aimsÌýto expand the educational, cultural and technological co-operation between the UK and China and is thus only available to Chinese students.ÌýThere are five scholarships for which BSEER is eligible and these are applied for via the ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Research Excellence scholarship scheme, so the deadline isÌý12 January 2024.Ìý

×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Research Opportunity ScholarshipÌý

The ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ Research Opportunity Scholarships are reserved for permanent UK residents from certain Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds.ÌýThe fiveÌýscholarships offer threeÌýyears of support with full fees, a stipend of around £21,000 per year and research support funds. Students must submit their application to the scheme and also a full PhD application byÌý12 January 2024.

The ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳, Bloomsbury and East London (UBEL) Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) invites applications for ESRC-funded studentshipsÌýto be based within departments at the partner institutions within the DTP: ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳, Birkbeck, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the School of Oriental and African Studies, and the University of East London. The UBEL DTP’s ESRC studentships are fully-funded for threeÌýto fourÌýyears (depending on academic pathway) and cover full payment of tuition fees per year, as well as an annual maintenance stipend. The deadline for preliminary applications to the ESRC Studentships Main Competition is on 15 January 2024.

The Bartlett Promise PhD ScholarshipÌý

The Bartlett Promise aims to enable students from backgrounds underrepresented in The Bartlett, ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳’s Faculty of the Built Environment to pursue a PhD at The Bartlett and is available to students with home (UK) fee status that also meet additional criterion of financial need, Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) background, disability, andÌýcare leaver status. The fourÌýscholarships offer fourÌýyears of support with full fees, a stipend of £19,600 per year and research support funds. Students must submit their application to the scheme byÌý19 May 2024Ìýand must have a formal offer of a place at ×î×¼µÄÁùºÏ²ÊÂÛ̳ by this date.
