BSSC PhD student Jiayi Yan has won聽鈥楤est Student Paper鈥� and 鈥楤est Presentation鈥� at the Conference in Melbourne, Australia. The WBC conference is one of the largest conferences in the building and construction industry and happens every three years.聽聽

During the conference, Jiayi Yan presented the paper titled 鈥楩rom Building to City level Dynamic Digital Twin: A Review from Data Management Perspective鈥�. The presentation was successful, with positive feedback from researchers and practitioners globally, such as RMIT, Monash University, University of Cambridge, and University of Florida. 聽

Advised by Prof. Michael Pitt and Dr. Qiuchen Lu, Jiayi Yan鈥檚 research focus is聽on the data management for digital twins, specifically on the heterogeneous data collection, data integration and data consumption for multi-stakeholders regarding building/infrastructure/city assets operation and maintenance. The research will be developed from both knowledge management and technology aspects.聽

Jiayi Yan commented: 鈥淚 was very glad to participate in such a big academic event like聽WBC 2022 in my first year of PhD study since it only happens every three years. It was a great opportunity for me to learn the updated topics happening in our built environment industry globally, such as technology innovation, circular economy, industry impacts on climate, equity, equality, etc. Specifically for my research direction (i.e., data for digital twins in short), which belonged to the technology innovation category, I confirmed that it would be a very potential direction in the future from the discussions and challenges generated by other researchers. I was also inspired by communicating with other researchers and practitioners, which could help with my own research study.鈥澛�
