***NOT RUNNING INÌý2024/2025***

Module convenor: to be confirmed.

Outline:

This module offers a comprehensive introduction to the dynamics of conflict and peacebuilding in Latin America. The module is designed to familiarize students with the principal academic debates on conflict and peacebuilding, examining relevant topics and cases of the legacy of armed conflicts and dictatorships for peacebuilding in Latin America. The main focus of the module is to explore the role of various political and social actors involved in conflict and peacebuilding dynamics in order to gain a deeper understanding of the complex relations between governments, civil society organizations, and violent non-state actors in Contemporary Latin America. ÌýAdditionally, the module assesses trends in civilian responses to conflict and war, including their efforts to build peace, their capacity to perform collective action, and their ability to build networks as well as their policy implications.

Although the module concentrates on thematic analysis rather than country-based analysis, it utilises examples drawn from South and Central America. The interdisciplinary nature of the course draws on International Relations, Political Psychology, and Sociology to provide students with a well-rounded and informed perspective on the dynamics of conflict and peacebuilding in Latin America.
